Pictures  for the Amiga come in several formats, the main ones you are
likely to come across are  IFF, JPEG and  GIF.

IFF
	Originally  formulated  by  the writers of DPaint, I believe.  The IFF
format has been expanded to include other filetypes such as text.

JPEG
	This  is  a format that allows high compaction rates on picture files,
it is almost a universal format for xchange of picture files between different
machines. It is capable of holding full 24-bit 16 million colour pictures.

GIF
	A  file format popular on the PC [spit!  spit :{] it is limited to 256
colours.
